After a year of gestation, The Open Mic Movement has it’s official kick-start on Sunday, 1st May 2016 at The George III public house in Hoddesdon, Herts.

It’s an ideal time to make it our official opening,. because it coincides with The George’s annual charity bike ride.

Neville, the landlord – and selected customers (the fittest), are cycling from Brighton back to Hoddesdon.

They should arrive back just in time for live music from The Open Mic Movement from 12.30pm, followed by (the legendary) SWORDSMEN the 60s cover band at 6.30pm.

In case you don’t already know, The Open Mic Movement:

  1. moves obstacles out of the way of performers
  2. it moves budding musicians from the practice room to the stage
  3. it moves them to perform with the experienced musicians of its house band – as part of the group
  4. in the most supported way possible
  5. with training wheels
  6. it moves musicians from established bands to come and play for free
  7. it’s so beautiful, it moves us to tears.

We invite you to join The Open Mic Movement; we want you to come along for the ride.

Do you play the drums, guitar, bass, keyboard or sing?

Come along. Get involved.

How It Works

We have a set list. (It’s down below.) These are the songs that you should be familiar with you in order for you to join in. If you are not yet familiar with the set, come along anyway, because we jam a few songs throughout the afternoon too.

Can’t Play Yet?

Do you want to join in but can’t yet play an instrument? CK Music Academy has the answer. (It’s also based in Hoddesdon – in Plumpton Road, off of Rye Road.)

CK Music Academy has a unique twist. Alongside traditional teaching methods, the academy is set up to teach its students songs from the Open Mic Movement’s set list.

Using modern teaching techniques, students can quickly progress to playing live music at our Open Mic Movement events – should they wish to do so – for free!

  • No more tedious scales (okay maybe one or two – but set to music. Start those guitar solos early!)
  • There’s no longer any need to learn classical music (if you don’t want to)
  • just get started –
  • playing popular songs that everybody wants to hear.

If you would like more information about The Open Mic Movement, telephone 07947 407807.

If you want to learn an instrument in order to get involved, use CK Music Academy’s contact form here, or telephone 07720 899880.
