Facilitating Performance -

Looking After Your Interests

Look for pubs who have joined The Open Mic Movement.

These pubs have committed themselves to providing the best sound on stage for musicians, with the sole aim of making it a pleasure to perform. With crystal clear sound, there’s no more struggle to hear yourselves; it’s a pleasure to just get on with playing. There’s no straining your voice in an effort to hear yourselves, and instrumentalists can be confident that they are playing the right notes because they can hear them.

Many Open Mic Movement pubs have a drumkit and full backline and can accommodate personal guitar amps and effects, etc. Sometimes there is a piano on the premises, but if not, you could always bring a keyboard and plug into the house PA.

Musicians who perform at our Open Mics, often get the chance to jam/perform with others.

OMM open mics are a great way to make friends and share tips. Bands are formed at open mics! These sessions are great confidence boosters. Many bands visit open mics looking for singers, guitarists and other musicians. All in all, a quality open mic session is a great night out with varied music.

The Open Mic Movement is committed to keeping first class Open Mic venues open. We want you to be able to visit this site and pick out an open mic session and know that you are in for a first class experience.

You may already enjoy performing at a regular open mic session. This is great news, but we must open our eyes to the fact that times are changing and pubs are closing at a reported rate of 25 per week. Soon, there will be limited venues for open mic sessions. Use them or lose them – if you find a music pub that goes over and above for their musicians you must support them, otherwise, you might turn around and discover it has gone.

Identify the music pub that puts the musician first. Read the information above about qualifying pubs here. You will see the criteria that we have set out for a music pub to become an Open Mic Movement public house.

All Open Mic Movement pubs are listed on our website. If they are not on the website, then we can’t guarantee that they have all the facilities that a musician would like. (A good PA system; monitoring on stage; guitar amps, drums, etc – see under “For Publicans” again for what we mean by “facilities”.)

If you find a good music pub with great facilities for musicians, tell them about the Open Mic Movement so that we can support them.
